So what’s the idea? Well, as you may already know my company has a great space for working, learning and creativity etc. We deliver our training from this space most days of the week but generally not on Mondays. So, following a lot of feedback from people that they would love to work here, I thought that actually that was a good idea. We’re a small team and we rattle around here on a Monday, so we could enable others, freelancers, consultants, business owners, start-ups, whoever really, that would find it useful to work, chat, think, drink coffee etc in a neutral space, to come in on a Monday between 9 and 5.
I’ve been a freelancer working from home and felt the isolation that a home office can be and I’ve been, and indeed am a business start-up. This means that I’m also familiar with the feeling that all your friends and family may be getting ‘business fatigue’ hearing endlessly about what you’re doing. You’re going to all the networking events to tell others what you’re doing too, which is fine, but it would be nice to just talk to someone else in the same boat particularly when you’re not 100% sure what you are doing.
I haven’t worked out the detail, I figure that I have the space, it’s an easy location to get to, just off Ocean Way in Cardiff and we have ample parking. Plus, I know that when I was working from home, I would have liked to come here on a Monday, sit at a desk and get on with my work, with others in a similar position to me about. I also know what it’s like to be hearing about all the office Christmas parties and feeling that munching a mince pie, at home, in your slippers, with tinsel wrapped around your laptop sucks. So at the very least, if there are a few of you who are interested, I’ll decorate the office, we can pool our Christmas cheer and we’ll pick a December Monday and designate that our ‘Christmas Party’!
This is not networking, I’m not going to be delivering any training, you’re not coming along to pitch, or sell and I promise not to loom over you like in the picture! I just imagine it, as if we’ve pulled together all of our isolated desks, where we’re are all getting on with our own stuff, but, on a Monday we could do that with others around and that would be nice. We’ve got computers etc but the wifi is good so you can bring your own if you’d prefer. There are no charges, I’m accepting carb currency at the moment, so bring along cake or biscuits and that’s fine (after New Year it’ll be carrot sticks, obviously). Basically, if this is a good idea and people are interested in doing this on a regular basis then we’ll work out the logistics as we go along.
If you’ve read my blogs, met me etc you probably already know that I’m a big fan of pulling together. I watch the news and wonder if this means I’m out of step with how things are today, but regardless, I think this is a good idea so if you do too and you’re interested then give me a shout on 0845 226 8234 or Helen.firstname.lastname@example.org
